Monrovia is the capital of the West African state of Liberia.
The city has 1,021,762 inhabitants. It is located on a peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mesurado River and has a large port.
The port of Monrovia, the largest artificial port in West Africa, sends rubber, iron ore, coffee, cocoa, rice and timber from the Liberian interior to the rest of the world. Monrovia’s largest industry is the processing of rubber and palm oil, food products, furniture and chemicals.
