Nouakchott

Nouakchott is built around a large tree-lined street, Avenue Gamal Abdel Nasser, which runs northeast through the city center from the airport.
It divides the city in two with the residential areas of the north and the medina district along with kebbe, a small town formed due to the expulsion of people from other areas of the desert.
Attractions in Nouakchott include the National Museum of Mauritania. The National Library and the National Archives.
Go to the busy fishing port ‘port de peche’ for a first hand look at Mauritania’s craft fishing. In the evening one can see teams of fishermen bringing the day’s catch on colorful lake canoes.
